  34. A simple workaround is to move latex2e up two levels in the directory 
  35. hierarchy and write a shell script named latex2e (as suggested
  36. somewhere in the latex2e distribution)  which (in our case) sets
  37.   TEXINPUTS = .:/tools/TeX/lib/latex2e//:$TEXINPUTS
  38. before calling virtex with the latex2e format. (Of course,
  39. /tools/TeX/lib/latex2e is not in the database.)
  40. This works for me. The reason might be, that the database is only
  41. searched for TEXINPUTS path elements which have as a prefix the
  42. directory where the database resides; but I don't know for sure.

  44. (Strictly speaking, this is against the idea of the texmf hierarchy to
  45. have all TeX inputs below $TEXMFROOT/tex, but since it's needed only
  46. for a few months (hopefully), one can live with it, can't one?)
